AI Voice Cloning Scams

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving, and one of the most concerning developments is the increasing sophistication of AI voice cloning technology. This technology can be used to create incredibly realistic imitations of people's voices, which can be used to commit fraud and other crimes.

One recent example of an AI voice cloning scam involved screenwriter Bob William and his colleagues at Peabody Films in Spain. The company received an email from actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who expressed interest in starring in their new film. The email seemed genuine, and William and his colleagues were excited to speak with Cumberbatch over the phone.

However, the voice on the other end of the call was not Cumberbatch's at all. It was a sophisticated AI program that had been trained on recordings of Cumberbatch's voice. The program was so convincing that William and his colleagues were fooled into believing that they were actually speaking to the actor.

The AI program eventually convinced William and his colleagues to wire $250,000 to a bank account in Nigeria. Once the money was wired, the scammers disappeared.

Other scams include a woman in the United States who was scammed out of $10,000 by a caller who pretended to be her son. The caller used an AI program to mimic the son's voice.
A company in the United Kingdom was scammed out of £50,000 by a caller who pretended to be the company's CEO.
A man in Australia was also scammed out of his life savings by a caller who pretended to be his bank manager, all of which were done by using AI Voice Cloning.
