An Oregon man caused a traffic hazard and infuriated his family after he threw wads of cash from his car onto Interstate 5.

The man, Colin Davis McCarthy, 38, told police he was "doing well and wanted to bless others with gifts of money." However, his family said the money he was using was the entire contents of their shared bank account, a not-too-shabby $200,000 in total.

The incident happened on Tuesday night on I-5 near Eugene, Oregon. Witnesses reported seeing McCarthy driving a white sedan and tossing bundles of cash out the window. The cash, which included $100 bills, flew onto the freeway and into the lanes of traffic.

Some drivers stopped their cars to collect the money, while others swerved to avoid it. The Oregon State Police said there were no injuries reported.

McCarthy was eventually pulled over by police. He told troopers that he had been feeling generous and wanted to give the money away. He said he did not realize that his actions could have caused a traffic hazard.

Police said McCarthy could have been charged with disorderly conduct or reckless endangerment, but they decided not to press charges. They said McCarthy did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

McCarthy's family is now appealing to the public to turn the money into the police. They said they need the money to pay their bills and support their children.

"We are asking anyone who found any of the money to please return it to the police," said McCarthy's wife, Sarah. "We need that money to survive."
