The US Air Force scrambled three F-22 fighter jets to intercept a mysterious spherical object that was spotted over Hawaii on April 28, 2023.

The object was first detected by radar at approximately 36,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean, about 100 miles off the coast of Oahu. The Air Force said that the object was "unmanned" and "did not pose a threat."

The fighter jets visually identified the object as a spherical balloon. The Air Force said that the balloon was "not maneuvering or being controlled by a foreign or adversarial actor."

The incident is the latest in a series of sightings of strange spherical objects over the United States and Canada. In February 2023, the US Air Force shot down a cylindrical balloon that was flying over Alaska.
