French study finds glass bottles release 5–50x more microplastics.
A 2025 ANSES study in France found glass bottles release 100 micro-plastic particles per litre, 5–50 times more than plastic bottles or metal cans.
Beer (60 particles), lemonade (40), and soft drinks (30) showed high contamination, traced to painted cap scratches.
Water and wine had lower levels (4.5 and 1.6 particles).
Health risks remain unclear, but microplastics appear in human organs, with dementia patients showing 10x more in brains.
