Havana Pothole Becomes Banana Plantation

Unfixed Havana pothole grows into a thriving banana plantation.

Havana Pothole Becomes Banana Plantation

A broken water pipe in Havana’s El Cerro neighbourhood, fixed three years ago, left an unrepaired pothole.

Plants, including a banana tree, took root, forming a small plantation. Residents José Antonio Fleites and Carmen Rosa Guzmán water it thrice daily, harvesting free bananas.

The pothole, on a busy street, highlights Cuba’s infrastructure issues, with 70% of roads in poor condition.

It has become a local attraction.
