Tanzanian Man Leads Family of 16 Wives, 104 Children

Mzee Ernesto Muinuchi Kapinga, from Njombe, Tanzania, has 16 wives, 104 children, and 144 grandchildren.

His homestead, resembling a village, houses each wife separately.

Starting in 1961 with his first marriage, he expanded the family at his father’s urging, losing four wives and 40 children to illness and accidents.

The family farms crops and livestock for sustenance.

Open communication maintains harmony, with Kapinga advising but not taking sides.

He recalls about 50 names but recognises others by face.
